What are we doing?

This has been in planning for a long time. Long service leave had to be taken, letters written to schools, bikes bought and upgraded, camping gear sorted, the vagaries of the SNCF elucidated and, of course, a whole lot of work work and housework completed.
If all goes well we will fly to Paris, train to Bordeaux then commence cycling (each on our own bike now that Noah is capable) east and south till we get to Provence 7 weeks later.
Along the way we will camp, stay in gites (one in the Dordogne and one in the Luberon), follow the market days and eat and drink very well. Hopefully the Euro crashes!
If the kids have any say, and they usually do, we will eat a pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant) each morning

The Cele valley!

We strapped our bikes to the rack and drove off almost randomly south
and east. For a while, we felt really depressed as the beautiful
landscapes and villages of the Dordogne made way for slightly bleak
ones. The highly touristic perched village of Rocamadour didn't make
us feel any better.
Anyway, by mid afternoon, we hit the Cele valley, a tributary of the
Lot, and wow it is just so beautiful. The landscaped is more dramatic
and less pastoral than the Dordogne. The houses are built into cliffs
of white and ochre stone. The river itself is beatiful and excellent
for swimming. We spent the rest of the afternoon swimming and hanging
out before deciding we wanted to spend several days around here and
pitching our tent.
Getting on the bikes (just Noah and Stan) and drifting alongside the
river was dreamy.
Alice and Bri went walking up into the small village of sauliac sur
cele and ended up half way up the huge cliffs which from the bottom
you would have thought impossible to reach.
Next day was a bit wet but after a wonderful visit to a Lascaux like
cave and some excellent pastries in the town of Cabrerets, Noah And
Stan did a loop ride down the Cele and the Lot and back over the hills
while the girls did a walk along a randonee track for 10 km.
It's a bit ironic and inconvenient- Alice can't ride and Stan, due to
his healing achilles, can't walk very much (riding's no trouble).
This is just a place along the Lot somewhere.
